Autodesk Accelerates European Localization of Global Building Industry Solutions through POINT Gruppen Agreement

Acquisition of Development Organization To Expand Global Reach of Model-Based Design Products; New Building Industry Division Development Office To Open in Sweden, Boosting Nordic Presence.

San Rafael, Calif., August 29, 2001 - Autodesk, Inc., (NASDAQ: ADSK), announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire the core development organization and selected assets of POINT Gruppen, AB, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CAD-Q Holding AB, a leading provider of building industry technology solutions in the Nordic countries and the Netherlands. Following the closing of the agreement, which is expected on September 1, 2001, Autodesk will open a major, new Building Industry Division development office in Borås, Sweden, dedicated to the development of Autodesk’s global building industry platforms.

“We’re committed to expanding the global reach of our model-based design solutions,” said Phil Bernstein, FAIA, vice president of Autodesk’s Building Industry Division. “By leveraging POINT Gruppen’s in-depth knowledge of the European building industry and expertise in developing model-based design solutions for engineers, we’ll accelerate our new building systems applications and will expand those offerings to include other engineering disciplines.” (Autodesk® Building Mechanical and Autodesk® Building Electrical—for mechanical and electrical engineers that work on top of Autodesk® Architectural Desktop 3.3—are scheduled for release in International English in September 2001, shortly after the opening of the new development office in Sweden.)

Autodesk’s strategic alliance with POINT Gruppen dates back to last year (see prior announcement, “European POINT Gruppen Signs Development Agreement with Autodesk,” September 13, 2000) when a joint development agreement was signed that enabled POINT Gruppen to collaborate with Autodesk on the development of core Building Industry Division products. “

“By letting Autodesk acquire our core development organization, our future commitment to Autodesk’s vertical strategy will be even stronger. We know that our customers continually will ask for better model tools, and we strongly believe that Autodesk can meet this demand”, said Stig Brinck, Managing Director, POINT gruppen AB, “ and we are looking forward to also in the future to serve our common customers in the Building Industry with strong global tools from Autodesk and Local solutions form POINT Gruppen/CAD-Q.”

To protect customers investments, Autodesk will support both the development and maintenance of the POINT product in the path into the new building systems applications.
In addition to the new office to be opened in Borås, Sweden, Autodesk’s Building Industry Division also maintains two other European offices in Guildford and Munich as well as offices in the United States in Manchester, New Hampshire; Ithaca, New York; and San Rafael and Alameda, California.
